EXPEDITION TO THE TUNNELS

APPROXIMATE DURATION IN DESTINATION: 6 hours.
Departure from the place of origin. We cross the Marapa river coming from the north or the Huacra river from the south, entering the La Cocha department. Along the route that takes us to Rumi Punco, we will pass through the place known by its curious name "La Loma del Pila", with its enchanting landscape towards the hill.
Then the mountain will approach the route, passing through different streams, and we will finally arrive at the town of Rumi Punco, a Quechua place name that means "Stone Gate". Later we will visit the Rumi Punco dam, with its beautiful water mirror, and then ascend to the embankment of the road.

After 20 minutes of walking along the same road, we access the 3 tunnels of Rumi Punco, among a lush vegetation typical of the tucuman yunga, although somewhat drier at these latitudes, between the sounds of parrots and hurracas, and at the same time contemplating the Huacra river that divides Tucumán with Catamarca and the leveler dikes with their intermediate height jets and small beaches in some cases. These tunnels were built with the intention of connecting the Tucumán train with Catamarca, although the train's operation never materialized.
Depending on the schedule, we will have a picnic in the area, or a picnic in the vicinity, taking care not to leave any residue in it, and then start returning to its place of origin.
